Hello Birdy

Good Sunday morning! I have a fun summer project to share with you today.  I was inspired by Lydia’s Just a Note project on the Featured Stamper Challenge over at Splitcoaststampers. I love the Stampin’ Up! bird punch and the free birdhouse  templates from Capture the Moment blog. They are so cute and fun when used together. 

 
 I printed the birdhouse template on yellow cardstock and cut out just the front portion of the house.  I created a scalloped roof and base for the house out of white cardstock for contrast. I love the sweet baby blue designer paper and thought it was perfect for the background.  The white crimped layer looks like a picket fence to me and seems the perfect addition to the base of the card. I love the sweet yellow gingham bird along the floral spray for a  perch and the tiny” Hello” sentiment tag.

Vintage Hannah

Good Saturday morning.  I have a sweet Rubbernecker image to share with you today called Hannah from the new Vintage Collection.  She is so sweet with her garden cart filled with flowers.

 
I chose to use muted colors to represent the Vintage theme of the image. I stamped Hannah with Brilliance Pearlescent Chocolate pigment ink and heat set. I colored her with watered down reinkers to keep the colors light. I went back over the outside lines of the dress, hat and legs with the chocolate pigment ink using a tiny brush to give a little more definition to the image.  I know I have gone totally flower crazy and you are probably sick of them but I couldn’t resist adding tiny flowers and foliage to the cart and to her hat,  I created a triple layer matted frame to add another layer of drama to this darling image.  I thought the scalloped eyelet punched borders were the perfect finish.

Toby and Friends

It has been several days since I have been able to stamp and post to my blog.  I got several nice emails from friends telling me I was missed and I appreciated each note very much. 

 
I have a sweet group of friends to share with you today.  This is a new released Toby and Friends image by Stampavie from the Laurence Collection. I painted the image with soft  muted colors, cut it out to pop up and paired itwith the bright aqua and white designer paper. I added a touch of punched foliage and punched flowers for interest.  It is hard to see in the photo but all the little flowers are sparkly with Stickles.The sky in the background was sponged with a hand cut cloud template. The tiny flowers are the punched pieces fromthe  Martha Stewart Flower Box Punch Around the Page sets. see picture below

Plant Kindness, Gather Love

Good Saturday morning!  It’s been several days since I have been able to post to my blog.  Our house was broken into this past week and not only were we robbed but the house was totally ransacked. I came home from work alone and I am so thankful the robbers were gone. It was a terrible mess and we feel so violated.  Luckily my animals were not harmed, there was no damage to our home and we are safe. ADT is coming this morning to give us an estimate on a security system.  You know the old saying …..”closing the gate after the horse got out”!  LOL!  

 
My project today is for the Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge.  The inspiration site is Patina and I was inspired by a kiwi green dishrack. I have said it before but have to repeat how much I love red and green together.  I pulled out Kiwi Kiss and Real Red cardstock to make my cornflowers and foliage.  Check out my Punched Cornflower Tutorial for more information on how I made my flowers.

 

The Plant kindess, Gather Love sentiment is meaningful to me.  I can't change what other people to do me but I can ontrol how I go about my daily life.

Welcome to our Rubbernecker Blog Hop! I am so happy that you could join us in celebrating new Rubbernecker image collections! These images have been on the Rubbernecker site for a few weeks but we thought it would be fun for the designer to have a hop to show them off to you. The fun new collections are Scooter Kids, Animals and Friends. You can find these new collections as well as many others in the Rubbernecker 2011 Release.

We have a wonderful group of women on our design team. I have had the privilege of working with Rubbernecker since the fall of 2007. I have enjoyed knowing many of our members since I joined Splitcoaststampers in 2005.  Several of us are old broads and some are young but we enjoy a close relationship much like family.  We are celebrating this family relationship by naming our design team “Stampin’ Sisterhood”.

 My first project is made using the fun Elephant from the Animal Collection.

 
I stamped the image twice on pink paper with black versafine and embossed with clear embossing powder. I cut the head and trunk out to pop up to create a little dimension.  I crimped the ears a little for a touch of texture and mounted the image over a crimped piece of white cardstock. I liked the black and pink frame layered over the embossed pink cardstock.  I love the little black reminder bow on the trunk and hooked to the “Sorry- I Forgot” sentiment.  The little pink flowers were attached to the frame with Glossy Accents and I used a black Glaze pen to fill in the flower centers.

 

My second project was made using an image and sentiment from the Friends collection.

 
I made this whimsical card for the Splitcoaststampers Featured Stamper challenge.  My layout and theme was inspired by Penny Allen's card.  I loved Penny's layout and thought it would be perfect to feature this sweet whimsical flower image. I stamped the image with Black Versafine and embossed with clear embossing powder.  I painted with reinkers mixed with water.  I loved the funky fun designer paper by Debbie Mumm for the background layer.

Batty Halloween in August

Happy Saturday.  I am so thankful it’s the weekend.  I took a two day class Thursday and Friday to learn how to work the new electronic medical record we will soon be using in the  practices where I work and I was practically brain dead yesterday evening when I got finished.  New electronic technology and an old brain don’t seem to go together well but I did make it through.  LOL!!!

I have a project to share with you today using a Penny Johnson image called Batty from the Stampavie Autumn/Winter release. I made this for the Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge with Blumenthal Lansing as our inspiration site. My inspiration came with lots of the decorative buttons in the Halloween Collection. I think the little boy in his Dracula outfit is adorable. His hair and sweet face reminds me a little of the Hummel children figurines.

 
 I stamped the image on watercolor paper, painted and cut out.  I will admit that I have a hard time painting with black reinker.  I mixed Pumice Stone and Black Soot together to try and get a mixture that wouldn’t overwhelm the whole image.  I guess it worked alright but I’ve been happier with past outcomes. I framed the image with Making Memories Halloween paper paired with Pumpkin Pie cardstock.  I added a few orange and black punched oak leaves to add interest to the sentiment. The sentiment is from a new set by Tina Wenke called Pace on Earth. I just used a portion of the For A Special Friend sentiment. I added a touch of clear stickles to the bat wings and clothing for some sparkle.

Happy Monday!  I hope you had a great weekend.  I was able to rest and had some fun stamping time.  I can share two projects with you today that I did playing in the Splitcoaststampers challenges and some I will share during the week.

My first project is a sweet friend card using Rubbernecker’s  Bouquet with Bow image. I made this for a challenge on layering color.  I got a little carried away with some white accents but I still like the outcome.

I stamped the image with black versafine and then painted using reinkers mixed with water.  I added little white accents (trying something new) using a white marker.  The sentiment is Friend to Friend  and I just inked off one word for the heart tag.  I used a Sizzix heart die for the tag and used mini scalloped scissors to cut the scalloped background for the heart. The background layer was made using the Martha Stewart Double Heart Punch around the Page set,  The round heart layer was made using Spellbinders Heart circles. I added the tiny punched flowers and foliage to the heart tag for a perfect finishing touch. Here’s another view.

Dare To Get Dirty-Final Day

Good Friday morning!  Are you looking forward to the weekend and being home from work as much as I am?  I am sure ready.  I think my husband will get out of the hospital today and I am looking forward to having him home again.  He has been in there since Monday and it has caused much additional stress and worry. Thanks  again for all your sweet emails and notes of encouragement.

Today is the final day of the Dare To Get Dirty event over at Splitcoaststampers.  This has been a fun week with tons of challenges.  There was something for everyone. The project I am sharing with you today is one I made last week to be used as a sample for Amy Sheffer’s DTGD11PickleTree challenge.  It is a fun and easy clean and simple project that is perfect to be used as a simple note card.  The sentiment says “Just Because”.

 
I think this big sunflower image is so pretty and stands alone beautifully on the clean and simple background. The sunflower was stamped on watercolor paper, painted with reinker mixed with water and cut out to pop up. I added texture to the background by embossing the main card layer with dots and crimping the white strip behind the flower. The white pinked edges add one more element of contrast between the white and marigold papers. I like the "Just Because" sentiment because it leaves this card open to be used for any kind of occasion.  Here are a couple other views.

Dare To Get Dirty-Day Five

Good morning!  I want to thank all of you who sent kind and encouraging notes and well wishes regarding my husband.  He is still in the hospital for more testing but is better. I woke up around three a.m. on Tuesday morning and wasn’t able to go back to sleep so I got up, turned on the coffee pot  and made a project meeting requirements for several DTGD challenges before getting ready to go off to work.  Luckily, I work at the hospital where my husband is admitted and know several of the physicians taking care of him.

I have never made a center step card before and it was a challenge but lots of fun. I had trouble trying to figure out how to dress the two skinny sides. I finally decided to mock the falling snow from my scene by embossing with the dotted folder. I had the same concerns with the bottom section and embossed them as well and covered lots of it up with the pine garland and red and white flowers.

 
 
The tree was stamped on watercolor paper and the ink was applied in a stipple motion with a dry brush swiped directly on to the ink pad to gather color. First the green and then the brown. I heat dried and then sponged on the blue around the sky area and finished by sponging a light shade of yellow directly over the tree. I heat dried very well and then painted white craft ink on the branches and dotted in the sky for falling snow. I applied white embossing powder and and heat embossed.  If you would like more information on how I colored the tree check out my Winter Snow Scene Tutorial.  After creating the garland I added the red multi loop bow and added tiny dots of stickles in each of the flowers for a little sparkle. Dare To Get Dirty–Day Four

Good Tuesday morning!  I have a quick post today.  I didn’t get to play in the DTGD challenges last night as I ended up taking my husband to the emergency room and getting him admitted to the hospital.  Ugh!  But I do have a card that I made a couple of weeks ago to be a sample project for my friend Bev’s DTGD challenge yesterday over at Splitcoaststampers. What can I say?  I have gone crazy making flowers.  It seems I can put some kind of flower on just about anything anymore.

 
I love making all white or all cream cards.  I never I did until I started dabbling with paper flowers. This project is a little different because all the foliage and flowers have been pierced with a needle for an extra bit of texture. It’s a little hard to see in the photo and it is so much prettier in real life.  I used Martha Stewart’s PATP Double Heart,  Hydrangea and Foliage punches and Spellbinders Heart Circle die set for this.  No stamping was involved at all….just paper!  Here’s another view.

Dare To Get Dirty–Day Three

I have sure been enjoying the Splitcoaststampers Dare To Get Dirty challenges thus far.  I hope you have been able to go and play along.  It’s so much fun.  I have a card to share today that I made for the challenge I hosted on Sunday. I went a little out of my norm but had lots of fun creating it.

 
I made this flower using three different size scalloped Nestabilities. I cut out two scalloped sections from each one to help shape them and then glued one side of the cut to the other. I softened them up rolling a stylus over the paper to make it easier to shape, distressed the edges by sponging with Antique Linen and then cut small slits toward the center of the flower in between every other scallop. I punched a one inch circle and a 3/4 inch circle and cut around each of them with my mini scalloped scissors to create the scalloped border to match the die cut flowers. I didn't cut out a section of either of these but just sponged on color and shaped with the stylus. I finished the center of the flower with three tiny shaped hydrangea blossoms and a 1/4' flower made with cardstock that I had colored with Antique Linen ink  so they would be darker than the rest of the flower. I cut two foliage pieces, distressed the edges and then sponged on a little Antique Linen. I created the frame using a Rubbernecker frame image and cut out the center with a craft knife. I distressed both the inner frame as well as the outside borders and sponged with Antique Linen. I mounted the frame with mounting tape over an embossed piece of artichoke cardstock that matches the foliage. I really like the look of the all dark green and think it highlights the flower, tag and frame perfectly. Here’s a couple other views.
