No Work Today

Yeah!!!  No work today.  My plan is to stamp and play.  No black Friday shopping for this girl.  I mostly shop on line for Christmas anymore as it is so much easier on my feet.  I'm sure lots of you can relate.

The Limited Supply Challenge on Splitcoaststampers today is to use snowflake stamps and neutral colors with a small splash of a brighter color.  I pulled out my brand new Papertrey Snowflake Serenade set to use.  When I think neutrals for Christmas I think country.  I decided to create a vintage looking card with distressed borders and ribbon.  I stamped the snowflakes on naturals vanilla paper with chocolate chip ink and used my piercing tool to create faux stitching holes.  I made my thread lines with a Gelly Roll black glaze pen.  I sponged the entire layer with Old Paper Distress ink and then again with Vintage Distress ink.  I tore the bottom portion of the layer off, distressed and then wiped all the borders directly over the Vintage pad. I created a sentiment tag with oval punches and with black craft ink and black embossing powder using the Peace sentiment from Papertrey Believe. I wanted to use red gingham ribbon so I ran it over the Old Paper ink pad to brown it up to looked aged.  Did you know if heat gingham it will curl?  I didn't realize it did.  When I went to heat the ribbon to dry the ink it started curling up.  I loved the curling as I thought it added to the look of aging. I sponged the borders of the chocolate chip main layer and then added some texture by using a baggy full of dried brown rice as a background tool and applying Vintage ink. see below for more info information. I always enjoy Jen's limited supply challenge as it makes you work a little harder to come up with something special using her restrictions.

Paper:  Chocolate Chip, Naturals Vanilla

Ink:  Chocolate Chip, Ranger Distress Inks-Vintage and Old Paper, Black Craft

Accessories:  Gelly Roll Black Glaze Pen, Gingham, Oval Punches, Paper Piercer and Template, Rice Baggie

Rice Baggie: A while back one of the SCS challenges was to find something to create a background with other than a large background stamp. There were lots of suggestions and the one I chose to use was a baggie full of uncooked brown rice.  It's a good idea to double layer your bag as after using it a while it tends to get holes and you know what happens from there.  You don't fill your baggie with more than say 1/2 to 3/4 cup of rice.  You need to leave room to hold on to the bag and allow the rice to be sort of loose.  Just apply the bag directly to your ink pad and then the paper, repeating until you have your desired background. I liked using this technique so well that the rice baggie remains a part of my stamping tools.
