I haven't been able to play in the challenges much lately as I have had my hands full with some other stamping commitments. Although I'm getting ready for a class tomorrow, I really wanted to take part in the Inspiration Challenge today so decided to kill two birds with one stone. My class tomorrow is quick and easy ideas for gift giving. We will be doing gift card holders, matching gift bag, tags and tissue paper and what ever else I may come up with today. I wanted to share my samples with you. Oh...and by the way....If you don't take part in the daily challenges, you should really give it some thought. I believe that everything I have learned about stamping and painting has come from my involvement in the challenges. There is always so much to learn and you make lots of great friends in the process.
I created a simple little gift bag using most of the colors and designs from our inspiration piece. I changed it from circles and flowers to snowflakes and Christmas trees. Of course, you know I always love a snowman on my work so it was fun to create a complete little scene using my new Merry & Bright set. I purchased the gift bags in a bundle called a Baker's Dozen from JoAnn's. Cheap and yet nice, strong bags. I cut Wintergreen Designer Paper to fit the top portion of the bag, created a scalloped border to go under it out of Sky Blue card stock and attached to the bag. I stamped my little images on Papertrey white card stock using black Stazon and by using the masking technique to put trees in the back ground and allowing the little reindeer and snowman to be in the front. I painted all images with re inkers and a watercolor brush. I masked off the border of the image layer with Post-Its so I could have a small white border to allow the blue sky, snow and snowflakes to show better. I stamped snowflakes with white craft ink and used a small watercolor brush to apply the craft ink to the ground area and then heat embossed with white embossing powder. I cut a scalloped layering piece with my Nestabilities die and popped it behind the little scene. I loved the scalloped borders as it seemed to match the design in the paper so well. I attached the tag to the bag and tied a celery ribbon to embellish the piece. I added clear glitter glue everywhere on this but don't think it show too well. I stamped little sky blue snowflakes all over a piece of tissue paper. I am attaching a closeup of the scene with the tissue so you can see the sweet matching snowflakes.

Ink: Celery, Sky Blue, Banana, Caramel,

My second project is a quick and easy gift card holder. I searched for some ideas on SCS and found this great gift card tutorial on my friend, Sharon Johnson's (aka Notimetostamp on SCS) blog. I made mine a little simpler by using Wintergreen Designer paper and a little fast tag. I love the results as it is darling, fast and easy to mass produce. I like this size gift card so much better than some of the smaller ones as they fit in our regular size card envelopes and eliminate the need to purchase special sizes.
Stamps: Punch Pals
Paper: Celery, Wintergreen Designer Paper
Ink: Celery, Sky Blue, Barely Banana
Accessories: Round Corner Punch, Grosgrain, Clear Glitter Glue
Oh Kittie! Merry & Bright is one of my favorite sets right now and I *love* the colors you've done it in here! TOO CUTE!! (Still hoping you'll be able to come to Orlando on the 24th! ;) )
