Snowy Winter Rose Wreath

Happy Saturday.  I’m posting a little late today but I have a lovely holiday wreath to share with you.  I played this morning in the Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge and the inspiration site was Wind and Weather.  I loved the whole wreath section but was especially inspired by this Romantic Roses Wreath.

I kept the roses and white theme and changed mine up to be snowy winter rose wreath.  You can see my step by step wreath tutorial here to see how I create the base of the wreath.

I started by creating a circle base for the wreath with two different sizes of circle dies.  I punch out lots and lots of pine sprigs and attach all the way around the circle alternating directions as I go.

I added the roses and tucked the holly leaves and pine branches around the roses. I lightly applied touches of liquid applique to the foliage and roses for a soft snowy effect.  I finished by adding the bow. Here’s a closer view.

I will add more red elements if I make this wreath again.  Although I love the white snow on the foliage I think there could be a little more red for interest.

Fall Think Of You

Good Friday morning.  I have been on a Christmas card roll for the last several posts so I decided to change it up and post a fall scene made using the Impression Obsession Solid Tree set and the fence die. There will be some fun Halloween projects coming soon.

I stamped the tree image on a piece of vanilla cardstock and added stamped leaves in fall colors.  I created the sky using a hand cut cloud template and sponge, lightly  sponged in the ground area and stamped in the hanging swing image. I used my Kittie Kits mini fern stamp from the Outdoor Master to add color to the ground area and to appear like fallen leaves.  I stamped the little swing seat again on kraft cardstock and cut it out and paper pieced it.

I attached the fence with mounting tape and added foliage and colorful fall flowers along the border.  I added a few of the tiny flowers to appear like falling leaves from the tree and several more on the base of the tree.

I thought this was a lovely sentiment and embellished it with tiny flowers and sprigs on the corners. As hot as it’s been in Florida this looks like a place I would really love to be.

This is beautiful. For the bottom you could put a tiered stand to hold pillar candles or just put Merry Christmas.

Here is a picture of the original card from my August 17th blog post. It was cute but definitely needed some additional elements.

There were many suggestions to add fire, logs, baskets of pinecones, a sleeping dog, a sleeping cat, an embossed brick background, piles of packages, candles and lots of other ideas. Here is what I came up with after reading all of your wonderful and creative suggestions. 

I decided to add the cat from Anna Wight’s Cat’s Life set but place it on the mantle instead of the floor.  I couldn’t resist putting a little mouse sneaking across the mantle on the opposite side.

I really loved the wrought iron screen and fire suggestions.  I used the Memory Box wrought iron fence for the screen and created the grass with layers of My Favorite Things Fresh Cut Grass border. I cut the grass out of a bright mustard cardstock and lightly sponged on orange ink to give the appearance of flames. I crimped all the layers before attaching to the base of the card and attached the screen in front of it. I applied a bright yellow Stickles on the flames to create sparkle for a crackling fire. I hand cut two baskets out of kraft cardstock, sponged with brown and attached on both sides of the fireplace. I filled the baskets with more evergreen sprigs and red flowers. I loved the embossed brick idea and have the embossing folder but I just didn’t want to take the card apart to add it.

This is a pretty busy card but I love how it turned out. Thank you all again for all of your lovely comments and suggestions.  I love giving away blog candy and this card gave me the perfect opportunity.  I hope you have a great day and thanks for stopping by.

Snowy Tree and Leaping Deer

I know!  Another snowy scene.  I can’t help myself.  I promise to do some non Christmas cards soon. I love the large pine tree in the Rubbernecker 3 Tree Set.  It is so majestic and fun to stipple paint. Check out my Winter Snow Scene and stipple technique if you would like to see a complete tutorial on how I create my  snowy trees. I used Liquid Applique for the snow on this project instead of white craft ink and embossing powder but you get the same snowy effect.

I started by stamped the tree with Walnut Stain Distress Ink and heat set.  I used a dry brush rubbed directly on the ink pad to gather ink and use a light stipple motion to apply ink to the tree limbs and trunk.

This technique gives a fuller depth of color than simple watercoloring with reinker.

 

When I completed coloring the trees I sponged blue ink around the whole tree to softly highlight. I added touches of Liquid Applique on the branches and ground area and dabbed it with my finger to smooth it out to avoid the dreaded blobs when heating.

I die cut the Leaping Deer using kraft cardstock and sponged Vintage Photo ink to add color.  I sponged on Walnut Stain on the antlers, hooves and nose.  I attached a tiny red satin bow and tiny sprigs of pine to the neck to add another touch of Christmas. 

I hope you haven’t tired of my snowy scenes yet.  I seem to get on a roll with something and can’t stop until I sear out on it.  Remember all the rolled roses?????  LOL!

Snowy Pine Limb and Birdhouse

Happy Tuesday morning!  I have a clean and simple card  to share with you today. I have been wanting to try my hand at adding pine branches to the My Favorite Things Branch and gave it a try on this project. 

I wanted most of the branch to still show so I only added sprigs of pine to the tips of the limbs using glossy accents.  I added snow to the branch and pine sprigs using Liquid Applique and smoothing it lightly with my fingers to remove bubbles and to avoid the dreaded blob. 

I hand made  the birdhouse using square punches and my scissors.  I scored lines on the red birdhouse to look like wood and rough cut the roof and base of the house with my deckle scissors. I added the Liquid Applique snow to the roof and base of the house and added greenery and red ribbon for a Christmas touch. Here’s a closer view.

I love the new Memory Box Ornament Border and thought it would look sweet along the base of the card.  I used the negative snowflakes from the die to create the fun red falling snow. I can’t wait to use the other negative ornament pieces on Christmas wreaths and tree cards.
