Good Tuesday morning! Have you seen Elaine’s fantastic Magic Boxes on Splitcoaststampers and Pinterest? Better yet have you checked out the Magic Box blog? Wow! Elaine does some incredible work and I have been mesmerized. If you click on this link you will be taken to Something Wicked, the most incredible Halloween project I have ever seen.
My friend and DT teammate, Dina Kowal wrote me a couple of weeks ago and sent a link to Elaine’s Something Wicked project. We wrote back and forth commenting on what interesting and creative work it was and how in the world did she accomplish such magic. Before we knew it we had decided to challenge ourselves and each other to give the magic box a try. Please hop on over and check out Dina’s project on Mama Dini’s Stamperia.
OK. So I checked out Elaine’s Small Butterfly Box tutorial and was instantly terrified. The tutorial was written with metric measurements. Now, I don’t know about you but I have issues with our standard inch measurements. I am pretty good at making a paper flower but making precisely measured 3 D projects…..not so much! After calming myself, deep breathing to relax my trembling fingers, pulling out my strongest reading glasses and metal ruler here is what I came up with.
Note to self. Trying to get fancy and adding a fence to the outside walls of the box keep it from closing neatly and leaves ugly gaps.
I was a pretty happy girl when I put the box lid on and that it fit.
Second note to self….the fence on the inside walls may have worsened the gap problem. LOL!
The thing that made me the happiest was actually getting my butterflies to fly. Here is a little closer view of the butterflies hovering over the flower garden.
Ok. If I can make one of these anybody can. It really isn’t nearly as hard as it looks and I think I can do lots better the next time around. You definitely need to check out Elaine’s blog. And before you check out Elaine’s blog and get lost over there for an hour or two, remember to check out Dina’s project. Oh…. Be careful …because you going to get lost in Dina’s blog, too! You'd better go get a cup of coffee. You're going to be a while.
Thanks for stopping in today and I hope you week is going well.

Oh how pretty! I made these a few years ago, but with pictures inside, like a scrapbook. I love this idea with the springing elements. Love ALL your work.

Kittie, you did a beautiful job with this box. And although you weren't happy with the gaps ~ honestly, it doesn't look bad. The box is beautiful and I'll bet we'll be seeing more of these from you. : ) I did go to Elaine's blog and all I can say is, Wow! I haven't seen the instructions of how to attach the butterfies, flowers, etc. But... I'm still looking. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. It's gorgeous. And thank you for sharing a new site too. I'm going to leave a comment for Elaine too. Now, over to Dini's blog. : )

Your box is beautiful. I would love to receive a box as pretty as yours. I checked out the blogs you mentioned and was stunned by the workmanship. All of you are wonderful artists. I don't know if you have ever checked out Amazing Paper Grace but she does gorgeous projects like the three of you. So inspiring.

Had to come back Kittie. After going to Dini's blog I did see the instructions. I've made an explosion box before so I do have that template. But I wanted to know how she was attaching the acetate. I just love it when people take something like an explosion box and ramp it up a notch. Thanks again.

Oh so lovely Kittie. I have never seen an explosion box done so very lovely. No others compare to you.

Good Morning, Kittie,
OH! MY! GOSH! what a creation, I am like you the metric would throw me for a loop. But you did fantastic. The additional ladies and their work is outstanding as well. OH! to be close and have a class with you, and girls would be outstanding. .....thanks for sharing....hugs

This is so beautiful and thank you so much for the links to the other two projects. I have no idea how I will convert those metric numbers to inches, but I will certainly give it a try. I love your fences, and am glad you pointed out the issue with them causing the box to not close exactly flush. Beautiful project today. Thanks so much.

I've gone to the trouble to make a explosion box for my daughters birthday several years ago. I put picture of her growing up inside. She loved it! She displays it proudly it in her glass curio cabinet.
Yours turned out lovely. Very, pretty in pink. Both you and Dina's look devine.
Hugs...Leanne

What an awesome project. I've admired those boxes but never had the nerve to try them. I'll be checking out Dina's blog - I haven't visited her for a while. I've never visited Elaine's blog, so I'm looking forward to that too. Thanks for all the great inspiration.

Hello Kittie,
Lovely card! Thanks also for sharing Elaine's tutorial. I went through it a couple of times and came up with a base of about a 1 1/2 inch square? That just doesn't seem possible. How do you cram such loveliness into such a small space? :) Did I do the math right? Thanks again. Barbara

Barb, you are correct that the base of the box is just about 1 1/2" square. You just have to use tiny images and objects. Good luck.
