Good Sunday morning. My project today was made for the Splitcoaststampers Inspiration challenge. The inspiration site was Eastern Accents and I was especially inspired by the Holiday Coastal Tidings collection found here. I have attached one picture from the collection.
The fact that the Coastal Tidings was a Christmas holiday collection inspired me to create a monochromatic coastal scene in blue and white to represent the bitter cold winter season along the northeastern coast. I visited Cape Hatteras, NC one year in November and there was snow on the dunes and the winds were almost unbearable. Still, it was so beautiful and intriguing to see how different the coast looked in winter versus summer.
I started by creating the cloud background using an ink blending tool and hand cut cloud template. I cut out all the images in white and sponged them lightly using my color box stylus and foam tip.
You can click on the pictures to see a closer view.
I cut the 5.5” x 7” frame layer and used a grand rectangle to cut the frame opening. I left the die in place to act as a mask and sponged the whole frame. The die held in place while applying ink created the white matting around the opening. I scored the lines on the frame and then applied white distress paint to give a white washed look. I cut two white layers with deckle scissors to create the white sand dunes and attached them to the back of the frame. The frame was attached to the cloud base layer with mounting tape.
I tucked the grass in behind the dunes and attached the shells to the frame with mounting tape. I popped the birds up in the sky with mounting tape. I really love how this turned out. I may have to frame it.
I’m so happy you stopped by today.

Understand what you mean about framing this. Just finished a Halloween card that grew into something I want to framing for the season...Love this card even tho I'm not a shore person. The way the birds are flying is so real! God bless your great talent and your unselfish sharing of that talent.

I love your cards and others I have seen with the Our Craft Lounge Be Jolly stamp. The company is out of business and I am wondering if you want to sell your stamp set to me.

Is this the mini shell set or larger shells from Impression Obsession? Love how this turned out!
Posted by: kren | March 28, 2015 at 11:28 AM
Kren, this is the larger shell set. Here's a link to the set. http://www.ellenhutson.com/impression-obsession-dies-shell-set/#_a_29
Here is a link to the mini set. http://www.ellenhutson.com/impression-obsession-dies-mini-shell-set/#_a_29
The mini set shell are just about half the size. Star fish in mini set is 1" x 1" and in the larger set it is 2" x 2". I hope this helps.
