Good Saturday morning. As you know I am in love with Susan Tierney Cockburn’s die sets and it was Susan who introduced me to the wonders of PanPastel. My project today was made using Susan’s Poinsettia set and her Conservatory Window set and I have an additional set of each to offer to you for a blog candy gift.
All you have to do be entered into the random drawing is leave a comment telling me whether you prefer creating your projects with stamps, dies or a combination of both. You will have until 5:00 pm on Friday, November 8th to comment and the winner will be announced next Saturday morning.
I cut the window die twice, one for the card front and one to finish the inside for my see thru window. I used the inside lines of the window die as a template and drew an outline to follow for cutting out the window. I attached the window to the card front with mounting tape and used ATG adhesive to attach to the inside opening. Check out my tutorial if you would like to see step by step photos of cutting out and finishing the window.
Next I cut out the flower and leaves and scored in the stem and vein lines using the leaf pad and leaf tool. I wanted my poinsettia to be a little smaller so I could pair it with the window so I only used the four smaller petals for the flower and the largest petal for the leaves. I had fully intended to use the stamen and Susan’s Garden yellow paper pen for the flower center but I totally messed it up and almost ruined my flower. Ugh! It was late and I was too tired so I pulled it off and just used flower soft for the center.
After scoring all the pieces I colored them with PanPastel, formed them with my tweezers and assembled the flower using crafter’s pick. I used white cardstock for both the petals and leaves because I like that it allows lighter and darker shades of color. You can see Susan’s tutorial for assembling the flower here. You can see a couple of my tutorials coloring both flowers and leaves with PanPastel here.
I cut the pine branch, applied PanPastel color and lightly formed them with the molding pad and stylus. I attached the pine and poinsettia to the window with glossy accents. I know the flower and window are not in perspective but I just love the open window with the floral design. There are no rules in art that can’t be broken…..right!

I love dies the most, but I usually end up using a stamp or two as well. Beautiful work...always a favorite and always one that I end up saving to refer to.

Oh, Kittie...you know I love your cards and you know how many dies I've purchased because of you. I am now favoring using dies on my cards....all because of you! When I grow up, I want to make at least one or two beauties like you do!
Posted by: Vicky Gould | November 02, 2013 at 10:21 AM
I am usually using more dies than stamps. Your card is just so beautiful, as always. I so look forward to seeing each new creation from you. Thank you for sharing your talent and ideas. It's so helpful to a fairly new cardmaker like me. Thanks, too for the chance at a prize!

First I have to tell you, all your cards are so beautiful! I had never purchased any dies until I found your blog, now I have binders of them! I don't do a lot of stamping but I love using the dies to make my cards. I have a few stamps and have bought a few because of your work. Keep on inspiring us with your beautiful work, and thank you for the chance to win this great set.

First I want to say that your cards inspire me, I love them! I like to make my cards with dies and stamps, I use my dies to make my focal point and I use my stamps mainly for the sentiments. tfs

I LOVE that poinsettia! It's gorgeous! Do you ever make videos? I'd love to see you in action with your dies and creating flowers, etc.!
I like to use both stamps and dies ~ love the combo sets where the stamps put details onto the die cuts!
Thanks for the inspiration you always provide, Kitty!

If I have to make a choice, I would say I use dies more than stamps, but I do usually put some sort of stamped sentiment on my cards...I have noticed that most of your card fronts don't have a lot of stamping, so I guess my style is similar to yours. I adore dies. I've been eyeing these flower dies in my LSS, so it's great to have a chance to win one....TFS your talent with us.

I like to use stamp on my project and usually combined with diy embellishment using either die or punch.
Love the poinsettia flower on the card, so awesome!

Your cards are always so beautiful. I tend to use stamps and dies for my cards. Thanks for the blog candy chance.

Lovely use of the dies, so pretty.
I would have to say I usually use stamps and dies, but I love the way that dies are so easy to use and can create such a neat scene!

I just love your work -- you are very artistic and innovative and I love that you use different dies for different things (like the fireplace with grass for fire!!) My favorite way to make cards is using dies and my personal cutter. I do very little stamping but I do have a few favorite sets that I use. Like you, I love Susan's flowers and the way she puts them together. I have several of her dies and the molding pad and embossing set which I use all the time. Thanks for sharing your talent.

Beautiful-love all the window and door cards you do. Enjoyed your post of cat cards and pics of your fur babies. I like using dies, embossing folders as well as a stamp or two on my cards.

I enjoy all methods of making cards, but love stamps AND dies, so I favor that. Your beautiful cards have really inspired me, Kittie! I'm asking Santa for some pan pastels, seeing how beautifully they color. Thanks for sharing your fantastic work!

Your card is beautiful. I too, love Susan's flower dies and have a few of them, but not the poinsettia. Would love to win this die and the window as Christmas is coming up fast. Edna Burgess

I like to use stamps for the sentiment but I've fallen in love with dies! After being a "fussy cutter" for years, it's so exciting to take out a beautifully cut image to use on my cards!
Posted by: Hannah Means | November 02, 2013 at 10:51 AM
P.S., guess I forgot to say I love using a combination of stamps, dies, ribbon and whatever else I find. More fun that way. Edna Burgess

I love my stamps and my dies. I usually enjoy working with whatever new goody has just arrived. I also love inking up my die cuts, so I can play with ink whether I'm using stamps or dies. Thank you for all the great ideas and inspiration you share with us here. ;-)

Beautiful card Kittie! I've only had my die-cutting machine a year, it was a birthday present from my son. Since then I've been incorporating more die-cuts into my stamped projects. Thanks for the great giveaway!

Initially I was a dedicated rubber stamper but now, with all the lovely dies, I am a combination of both. I can't imagine making a card without using my Big Shot!

Wow this is stunning Kittie, love your style of cards using only dies. Thank you for all the inspiration that you share with us. I rarely do cards without stamps, and my cards are most of the time a combination of a stamp and dies. Thank you for the chance to win xx

I'm a dieaholicnow! I have so many and love to use them on my cards. I still rubber stamp but usually a due appears to complete the look. Hour samples have been such an inspiration. Thanks for the chance to win the goodies.

I use both stamps and dies for my cardmaking. I've been reading your blog for years and have seen you change slowly from stamping to dies. You are a very talented, caring artist no matter what medium you use. Bless you for inspiring all of us and for offering us a chance to win blog candy.

I am such a die addict! I have stamp to prove that I am also a stamp addict----wish I could sell my stamps to buy more dies!
I just received some of Susan's new flower dies---I sure wish I had your talent to make them look beautiful! I look at mine and say "hmmm"!!! I will keep practicing!
Thank you for sharing your AMAZING talent with us! Appreciate your generous offer to enter for a chance at blog candy!

I have more stamps than dies but like to create with a combination of both when I can. I have been learning so much from your tutorials explaining your cards, I try to recreate them but they never come out as beautiful as yours do! I appreciate the chance to win blog candy.
Posted by: Jackie | November 02, 2013 at 11:29 AM
I fell in love with this craft by learning to stamp. But once I acquired dies...I'm hooked. Many of my cards don't have any stamping except for a sentiment on the inside. You have been quite an inspiration.
Posted by: Lynn W. | November 02, 2013 at 11:29 AM
For me, it's die cuts all the way! I love stamps, but always seem to fall back on the dies. It's the clean, sharp, professional finish that is so important when I make a card. You can always rely on a die to meet those expectations. Your posts are my inspiration and I smile every time I see there is an email in your own special 'Inbox' in my emails. I always open it first and it makes my day. I receive your mails mostly early in the morning here in South Africa, so it's just the right kick start for me.! Thank you for your sharing and inspiration and for your generous give away's that pop up often. This one would make my Christmas as I am crazy for Poinsettias and Susan's dies.

Stunning card Kittie, the red flower really pops.
95% or my cards are stamped but I love to embellish with flowers/flourishes/die cuts - it makes them a little bit more special to my eyes.
I would love to win a frame/window die because I love to make landscapes and a die cut frame would look so much more professional and so much nicer than the ones I try to cut out by hand which are so fiddlly.
Thank you for the chance, hope you have a fab weekend x

Delightful card, Kittie! I just bought Susan's dogwood flower dies, and I'm anxious to try them out! Her dies are just gorgeous and I'm happy to see that she has added that beautiful window!
I love using both stamps and dies. The dies available now are so beautiful and detailed! So many to choose from! I always enjoy visiting your blog and seeing your lovely creations too... so inspiring!

I prefer using dies and punches on my cards most of the time these days. There are so many gorgeous and/or fun dies out there. But, I still love stamps, too, and the various techniques that go along with stamping. But, I have to be in the right mood to get "inky" so it doesn't happen nearly as often as it used to. Die cutting and punching just makes it easier for me.
Your poinsettia is gorgeous! I love Susan's flower dies, too. I'm still hoping to get the dogwood, mini petals, mini daisy and several of her previous die sets. These new sets are wonderful, too. Thanks so much for the chance to win them!!

Such gorgeous cards...The Poinsettia is really lovely! Most of the
time, I make cards using both mediums!!!!

I started using more stamps, but I tend to gravitate more towards the dies now. Both are necessary
Posted by: Kristin | November 02, 2013 at 12:18 PM
Your card is beautiful and love the poinsettia, your work is alway about the top notch. For me it's always hard to say, I love the stamps and the dies both. Mostly I go with the dies but I do use a lot of inch and distressing and stamps as backgrounds. So it's a toss up.
Posted by: Gretchen W | November 02, 2013 at 12:24 PM
I love Susan's dies and what you do with them is amazing. You are such an inspiration to all of us! Lately I have been creating primarily with dies but I really enjoy combining dies with stamping which is why I'm getting addicted to framelits with matching stamps. I would truly love to win your blog candy and thank you for the chance to do so.

Ilove all you do with Susan's dies. You do such beautiful work. I use both dies and stamps. I have never won anything but thank you for the chance. Thank you so much.

I love using dies the most. It really depends on the creation and the occasion as to whether I use a combination of the dies and stamps. I really like your window card. It has put me in the holiday mood. Thanks for sharing and for the chance to win the sets.
Posted by: Veronica Allen | November 02, 2013 at 12:38 PM
Kittie, every card you create is beautiful. I am so glad you have made a poinsettia card. I want my Christmas cards to have poinsettias on them this year. My card making technique combines stamping and die cutting. I love both. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.
Posted by: Judy Holler | November 02, 2013 at 12:39 PM
Gorgeous card once again!!!! Beautiful poinsettia, now I must have this die too, and I just bought a poinsettia die!! I have to admit I am addicted right now to all these wonderful dies, but I also love stamps just as much and seem to be ever collecting both!! Thanks for the chance on this lovely prize!!
Posted by: Diane H | November 02, 2013 at 12:41 PM
Thank you very much. Poinsettias are one of my all time favorite flowers. Mine is just starting to turn red now. I love your cards with poinsettias.

Oh, so LOVELY! I am starting to think I need to add PanPastels to my growing collection of inks, etc. Your shading details are just exquisite. I usually use dies and ink them, but I did buy a couple sets of matching dies and stamps that I am going to give a try this year. Thank you so much for the opportunity to win these die sets, I just love them!
Posted by: Linda Pekrul | November 02, 2013 at 01:06 PM
Because of you, I have been leaning more towards using dies, but I still love my stamps as well, so I guess it is a combination of both for me. If I wasn't able to follow your tutorials, or for that matter, anyone else who uses dies, I probably wouldn't be able to produce such lovely cards just using my own imagination. Thank you so much for sharing your talent.
Posted by: Susan Nelson | November 02, 2013 at 01:06 PM
Another gorgeous card Kittie, as always. I LOVE dies and stamps. I have purchased
many dies after being inspired by your cards, but only have a few sentiment stamps,
so far since Im still a newbie at card making. I, like many others can't wait to
see what you will make next.

Such a beautiful, elegant Christmas card Kittie!!! This window die certainly can be used year round! I love dies over my electronic cutting machine...dies definitely make it to all of my cards, layouts and how beautiful would this window be on an art journal page? Thank you Kittie for year round inspiration!!!!!!
Posted by: Dara Lynn | November 02, 2013 at 01:38 PM
I love the new combos of stamps and dies. I greatly prefer the sets that allow you to die cut a stamped image. Magnetic platforms have made this fairly easy. I have so much trouble lining up a stamp after the shape has been cut as required by some dies. I guess it's my old eyes.
I wanted to tell you also, that I consider you one of the most talented crafters out there. Thank you so much for the inspiration you have provided over the years.
Posted by: Jmg0919 | November 02, 2013 at 01:39 PM
Kittie, I am always in awe of the projects you make. And I am inspired by the attention to detail. I love using stamps with dies. I have wished for that combination for years and the manufacturers have obliged; we have such wonderful products available now and YOU bring them to life. Thanks!
Posted by: Trish | November 02, 2013 at 01:39 PM
I've been a stamper for years, but after I started receiving your emails my dies seem to be multiplying like rabbits. I look for your emails every morning and am always awed at each new creation. I don't have a big enough word for your scenes, they are just AWESOME. Hope you continue to amaze us for years to come. By the way, I loved all your kitties, I only have one, but he rules our household.

Posted by: lynn burzese | November 02, 2013 at 02:32 PM
Both! I started making cards with stamps and have added both punches and dies. I love using dies because of the texture they add to a card, and I like stamps because they do the "drawing" for me. Having dies that coordinate with stamps is definitely a plus!

Another beautiful card today Kittie, the Poinsettia is just lovely. These days I make most of my cards with just dies as so many gorgeous ones are around now. But before I had a die cutter I used my vast collection of stamps a lot! I do also love the dies that have stamps to match! Have a great weekend!

I love stamps and dies for my cards, but I sure love the way dies make a card look so professional. It's interesting how the art of card making has evolved since I started stamping in 1998. I'm always so inspired by your cards and I appreciate the chance to win.

I am in Awe of your talent! One of the blog subscriptions that I look forward to read is yours and trying to emulate you although successful I am sure that it takes me longer and I consume more tylenol than you ! To answer your question it all depends on the mood that I am in. For this christmas I have done all dies and also a combination of both. Let me tell you all these companies that you make projects for should give you a commission if you are not already get it! I have spent a fortune in them and they have to thank you for it! Thanks for this awesome candy, I hope I win it. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and your family!

I usually stamp my cards, but lately (because of you:) I am using dies a lot. I am using a window die to make my Christmas cards this year. It's actually going faster than I thought it would and I'm really enjoying the process.

Hi Kittie,
As usual, I love your creations.
I like to use both stamps and dies.
It is fun to do both. Please keep up
the inspiration.

Hi Kittie,
I prefer both, it all depends on the creative urge that takes me at the moment. Always enjoy seeing what new creation that you come up. Love the new dies that Susan is coming out with.

Good evening, Kittie,
I love most the dies on my cards.
But I love ALL your cards! Your combination cards are wonderful.
Everything you touch, changed in gold...
The poinsettia is fabulous! It seems a really flower.

I have purchased more dies because I loved the way you used them on your cards. You are truly a "very" talented lady and I look forward every day to seeing what you have come up with next! I do like using stamps, but certainly use a lot of dies also. Thanks so much for the opportunity to win.

I am getting quite a collection of dies, I find I like to use them. I also have a lot of stamps. So I guess I like either. I do like to do the fancy folded cards and find the dies make great focals for holding the whole thing together. I just love all of your cards. I hope to learn how to put things together the way you do so they look so beautiful. Thank you for the chance to win these wonderful dies.

The window cards you post are just plain gorgeous!! Almost every card I make, it is a combination of dies and stamps. I just love the dies and I am drawn to what they can add to a project.

As I'm primarily a stamper,it doesn't feel right to me to do up a card with no stamping on it . . . I at least like to have a stamped sentiment somewhere in view. However, I'm a die freak as well so it's a constant tug of war between the two (but it's a fun one nonetheless!).
