Good Friday morning. My project today was made for the Splitcoaststampers Ways to Use It Challenge to use a horse I some way. I dug down deep and dusted off my Stampin’ Up! Bronc Buster set. It has been a long time since I played with this stamp set. I thought the embossed wood layer made using the Sizzix Bricked and Wooden folder would be the perfect background for the silhouette image. This would be so cute for a little boy who loves cowboys.
I brayered Vintage Photo ink on the inside of the embossing folder and embossed using kraft cardstock. I used my Inkssentials ink blending tool to apply Walnut Stain ink on the raised portions of the paper to add depth to the wood.
I applied ink to the stamp, misted lightly with water and stamped on vanilla cardstock. I used the Tim Holtz Distresser tool to rough up the edges and then applied ink to the edges using my Color Box Stylus and Foam Tip. I attached it to the wood background with mounting tape.
I applied ink directly on kraft cardstock with the ink pad, wiped it lightly with baby wipes to even the color, heat dried a little and then cut in three thin strips. The dampness softened the cardstock and made easier to braid. I attached one end of the strips together with glossy accents and taped to my table. Using a fairly delicate touch I braided the strips and secured at the other end with glossy accents. I think this looks so much like real leather.
If you would like to see some other faux leather projects as well as faux snakeskin and faux gold you can check out my tutorial here.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope you have a great Friday and wonderful weekend.

Great card, Kittie! Love the depth of the inked wood, looks good. Your cardstock, woven "rope" is sooo cool and yes, it does look like leather. I'm sure I'd rip it so I'm not even going to try it. Hee. TFS this terrific card. :)

Fantastic guy card, Kittie!! Thank you for the inspiration, I love the woodgrain. The tutorial is excellent and I will use it. I have everything for the woodgrain. The lariat is amazing, so many possibilities with that, I could see using it to make a watch strap for the impression obsession watch dies or a pocket watch fob.
I always need guy card ideas and this is a great starting point for me.

Your cowboy card is soooo amazing! It's so different from your usual style of flowers and swirls but it's what I expect from someone with your talent! The wood background and the braided paper are perfect. I was trying to think of a special card to make for my brother's birthday coming up in a couple weeks. I will have to give your techniques a try.
Thank you for the inspiration!!! :)

I can not believe you made that leather rope from paper. I really can't. I seriously think you are a genius! I can only imagine the mess I would make trying to do the same thing! The card is so great on it's own...but when I found out you made the lasso...it jumped right up to the unbelievable category!
