Good Sunday morning. I had lots of comments about the Weathered Carolina Birdhouse project I made last week so I thought I would take a few step by step photos today to show how I painted and distressed the paper to create the aged wood.
I started by painting a piece of cardboard with Weathered Wood Distress Crackle Paint and heat dried.
Using a fairly dry brush I lightly applied Picket Fence Distress Crackle Paint. .
I spread the white paint out some with my fingers.
I marked off every 1/2 inch across the top and bottom of the cardstock. Using a ruler to keep my line straight and the pick end of the leaf tool from the Accessory Tool Kit I scored down each section to create the appearance of boards. I lightly sanded all the lines when I was finished to remove loose paint and paper.
I cut the Small Madison Window and Small Flower Box out of cardboard and painted them with a couple coats of the white crackle paint.
I used a file from the Basic Grey Precision File Set to distress the window and flower box to create the appearance of flaking paint with the wood showing through.
I distressed several places on the inside and outside edges of the window.
I hand cut and crimped some white cardstock to create cottage curtains for the windows and used the Border Duo 2 scalloped die to create a valance. I couldn’t resist using red gingham ribbon as tiebacks for the curtains. I think it adds another touch of country to this project. I attached the window to the card base with mounting tape.
I used the Grass Border to create the stems for the flowers and attached them to the back of the flower box. I attached the flower box with three layers of mounting tape so it would stick out a little past the window. I formed tiny flowers made with the Flower Mound and attached them to the stems with glossy accents. I love the country feel of this card. It seems that country blue, red and white are such a perfect color combination for “country projects”.
I hope you are inspired to try your hand at making a weathered wood project. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a good day.
Card size: 5.5” x 4.25”
Thank you for the excellent tutorial Kittie. I have the Tim Holtz window die, I will use your aged crackle technique with it. Thank you for sharing this beautiful, inspiring card. I love all the details, it is a bright and cheery card.

Adore your weathered worn window scene and can't wait to get the. Tackled paint to emulate you Kittie. Going to make my dining room somewhat shabby chic so even your cards are inspiration for that plan.

That's okay, though! it inspired me to create something using different techniques for a similar effect! :) Thanks for the push to bust out my Distress Inks! :)
