Good Tuesday morning. My project today was made for the Splitcoaststampers Clean and Simple Challenge. The challenge was to use at least three or more of the colors from the Design Seeds color palette shown below and we got extra credit if we used birds on our project. I instantly thought of cold and snow and stepped away from my spring projects and created birds and snowy branches.
Creating clean and simple cards is not so simple. The challenge is to have a focal subject interesting enough to stand against a very plain background. I liked my bird on the snowy branches but did feel like the background looked a little too stark. Maybe a really nice sentiment in the sky area would make a difference.
I created the frame using my Matting Basics A and B set and attached it to the card base with mounting tape. I cut the Large Bird on Branch twice and cut all the leaves off to create the bare winter branches.
I cut two extra birds to create the wing and tails. I applied blue ink to the bodies of the extra birds and cut them off using deckle scissors. I applied a light bit of blue on the heads of the base birds, and brown to the bodies and attached the wings to the bodies with rolled glue dots. I applied glossy accents all of the branches and sprinkled on white flower soft to create the snow. I finished by attaching the birds to the card base with mounting tape and the branches in behind the frame with glossy accents.
Thank you for coming by and I hope you have a wonderful day.

Kittie, I totally agree with you about creating CAS cards! It takes me so much longer . . . my brain waves don't travel in that direction . . . oh, how I wish they did! This card is absolutely the most gorgeous card. I so love the cardstock you chose for the background, and those birds are perfectly stunning, they look so fabulous against the background. And the snow on the tree limbs is the perfect touch to a perfect card. Hugs!!!

Beautiful, perfect snowy branches, love the dimension you gave to the birds and their coloring, I think a sentiment in the sky would top it off perfectly, but that's just me, I have a problem with too much open space.... LOL!

It's snowing today, again, in my neck of the woods so I might actually see two birds huddled together! Beautiful card Kittie!

Good Morning, Kittie. What beautiful birds on the snowy branch. I love the deckle wings, and their colors are perfect. I am thinking like you that a sentiment in the sky would be great. or some clouds, even in snow you can see some soft clouds. This truly clean a simple card, guess you could add different sentiments to suit the occasion that was needed, a good note card this way. I too have the problem with the open space. otherwise: a gorgeous perfect card. ...have a good day.

Love, love your card! Maybe some very soft clouds (that you do so well) in the background? Regardless, the colors you chose are beautiful. What's not to like about birds in a snowy branch! Awesome!

Beautiful card Kittie. When I first scrolled down to look at it, I thought the "snow" were flowering branches. Your ideas for the wings are very timely, I am working on a card based on your rainy birds card. I was trying to figure a way to make a wing, thank you for the tip. Thank you for sharing this inspiring card today. I have thoroughly enjoyed working on my adaptation of your bird card, mine is a robin.
