Good Wednesday morning. Welcome to Day 2 of the Design Team Spring Die Hop! Did you enjoy all the wonderful design team creations yesterday? I hope so. I have been sharing the new dies with you over the past couple of weeks but this week our team is wowing you with their “die” creativity.
My project today was made using the Kite Set, Sun and Moon Set, Cloud Set and Leafy Branch.
My kite project was so much fun to make. I wanted the scene to be all about the kites flying over the tree tops. I cut my frame using the Spellbinders Matting Basics B set and attached it to the card base with mounting tape. I created my tree top branches by cutting several pieces of the leafy branch in white, coloring them with Copic markers, cutting the branches apart and tucking them in behind the frame attaching with glossy accents.
I cut the clouds and sun and attached them in the scene with mounting tape.I cut the kites, assembled them and attached the pieces with glossy accents. I attached them over the clouds with mounting tape to give another layer of dimension so they would appear to be floating.

Kittie,
Love this as all of you're cards.
I am having an issue using the dies. I am using a CUttlebug and I amnot getting a clean cut at all . I used the thinest paper I have and still not cutting through . Especially on the little flowers, any suggestions? I just bought 11 dies and tried them last night and gor so frustrated I quit .

Fantastic, reminds me of Mary Poppins... "Lets go fly a kite...."
Great spring card. A good card makes me smile, or get a feeling that touches my heart. Yours always do. TFS Jess

Hi! Just want to let you know that I also had that problem before with the cuttlebug and the wafer dies! I add a cardstock sheet (cut out of a cereal box) to my "sandwich" (just on top of my die) and it works great!! Cut throught all the time! Hope it works for you.

Joannie, I hope I can help relieve your frustration. When I owned a Cuttlebug I found that my dies wouldn't cut as well when the cutting plates got old and worn down. Purchasing new ones will help. With that said I owned a Cuttlebug for a few years before I purchased my Big Shot. The Cuttlebug does not create the same level of pressure as the Big Shot or my Grand Calibur. I certainly don't want to imply that the Cuttlebug isn't a good machine but it is sort of like a compact car competing with a Ford 150 pick up.
I really work my machine hard as I mainly create die projects. I would suggest if you like to create with dies on a regular basis and work your machine hard you may want to put a different machine on your wish list.
I also use a Memory Boc metal adapter plate on occasion when I am cutting an intricate die. Here's a link to the one I have. http://www.ellenhutson.com/servlet/the-13620/Memory-Box-Memory-Box/Detail
I hope this helps. Please feel free to write me at [email protected] if I can help in any other way.

Love the scenes you created with these wonderful dies.
Posted by: Sue D | March 26, 2014 at 09:12 AM
I just read your comment and I use a metal plate to cut all my dies...there are a few different ones out there, but I use one from Cheery Lynn Designs...I use it every time...works like a dream...it is sharp around the edges, so I added tape all around...have been using it a few years now...hope that helps, and didn't mean to "but in"!!! If your plate is worn (like mine) it also helps to reposition the dies on a not so worn spot.
Posted by: Diane H | March 26, 2014 at 09:12 AM
Wow.... Kitty, this is gorgeous!!! I have the kite dies sitting in my desk right now...I can't wait to use them...so fun seeing your creativity with them!!

Good Morning, Kittie. both spring scenes are gorgeous. I love those bunnies. and kites. Easter is on its way. Beautifully done. Thanks for your tutorial in the classroom. Super.
A suggestion for the Cuttle bug, try moving the plates to change direction for the pressure, also use extra card stock on top to make more pressure. Sometimes use two extra sheets. An then run through sometimes 3-4 times.each time turning where it cuts from where it doesn't cut, for those very delicate dies.
It's a good machine, but I have now added the Big Shot, which does have more possibilities but even then you may need to run it several times, depends on the die.
with both machines, when the plates become warped, change them with new ones. Like tires on our car, they wear out with use.

Such fabulous spring cards!!! It actually feels like spring here today. Yay!!!
Posted by: Colorado Crafter | March 26, 2014 at 12:30 PM
We are having a blizzard here, so this card is really uplifting (pun intended)!
One of the things I love about the IO dies is that they cut so easily. I have a seven year old Cuttlebug, and I don't need a metal plate, but I am obsessive about flipping my plates to keep them from warping. A warped plate just doesn't cut well. I find that some of my Spellbinders are a pain to cut in both my machines(also have an eBosser), I just shim the areas that are having trouble. Another trick is to place your dies near the sides, rather than the middle, there is more pressure on the sides, and I believe that is true with all makes of machine.
