My first project today was made using the Impression Obsession Butterfly Block and Ken Oliver’s Color Burst Merlot. The frame was made using the Nesting Rectangles.
Color Burst is a new product for me and I had lots of fun experimenting. For this project I lightly sprinkled a very small amount of the Merlot powder on my craft sheet and misted it with water. It was amazing to watch how the powder reacted with the water. I laid a piece of white cardstock down over the ink and gently moved my fingers over the back to make sure I had full color coverage on the sheet. I picked up the cardstock, turned it over and used my heat gun to dry it. Some of the spots were darker and some lighter which is reflected on my Butterfly Block. I probably should have used watercolor paper because I think the ink would have dried in a more vibrant color. The plain white cardstock dried a little bit dull. I decided I would brighten it up by covering the sheet with versa and embossing it with clear embossing powder.
I cut the rectangle frame and Butterfly Block. I applied double stick tape all the way around the back of the frame and then attached it over top of the Butterfly block. I attached thin strips of mounting tape to the back of the frame and then attached it to the card base.
For my second project I used the emboss resist technique on the Ken Oliver Mixed Media Art Board.
I stamped the Impression Obsession Full Bloom Hollyhocks a few times across the art board with versa and embossed with white embossing powder. I had three boards so I decided to use the same image on all three and paint with different colors. I used the Color Burst Alizarin Crimson, Color Burst Ultramarine Blue and Color Burst Merlot. I gently sprinkled each powder into my palette bowl and applied water. Wow! The color was so bright and vivid. I used a large brush and mixed the color with more water and washed the color over the entire board. I didn’t take pictures of all three individually but thought you could get a good idea by seeing them all together. The white embossed hollyhocks burst out of the color so perfectly. I am excited to try the emboss resist on a card front with some of my more intricate stamps.
I hope you have enjoyed seeing my projects and there is so much more to come. Just follow along the hop list below to see all the ways the designers used these wonderful products.
