Countryside Snow Scene and Blog Candy

Good Sunday morning.  My project today is a country village snow scene made using the Memory Box Countryside Circle paired with the My Favorite Things Mini Scallop Square Stax and a tiny star from the Impression Obsession Sun and Moon set.   I love using the white and pale blue color combination for snowy holiday cards.  There is something so peaceful about the combination and using a bit of sparkles adds special touch.

The Countryside Circle is a small die and I felt being placed on a large card would overwhelm and distract.  I decided that 4.50” square would be the perfect size.  I cut the scene die out once in full and cut the tree and house section out two more times.  I thought the little house a three trees looked a little lonely so I cut the extra houses and trees apart and attached them to the back of the circle frame.  I applied a thin line of Cosmic Glitter Glue along the ground level of the scene and covered the trees and then applied glitter to add a little sparkle.  I attached the scene layer to the blue scalloped layer using mounting tape and then attached the blue layer to the card base with mounting tape. I applied falling snow to the sky using a Uni-bal white gel pen.  I added a tiny sparkly star in the sky to finish.  So sad that the sparkle doesn’t really show well in the photos.

Blog Candy

I have the Elizabeth Craft Designs Outdoor Edges die set that I just “had to have” but  never used.  LOL! I thought it would be the perfect set to offer as blog candy to add to someone’s scenery die stash.  Leave a comment on this post by 5:00 pm Friday, Oct 7th telling me what your favorite holiday color combination is.  Red, white and green is my absolute favorite but this blue and white combo is certainly running a close second.  I’ll announce the randomly chosen winner on my Saturday morning post.

Deer Winter Scene

Good Saturday morning.  I have a fairly masculine winter scene to share with you today using the Memory Box   Forest Clearing Oval Frame, Standing Deer Oval Frame, Hero Arts Color Layering Snowy Tree and Martha Stewart Branch Punch.  Before I start my project description I to make a little fun of myself.  Albert Einstein said “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Over the years I have made all kinds of snowy scene cards using several types of products to create the appearance of snow:  White watercolor paint, gesso, versa and white embossing powder, liquid applique, and one of my new favorites white embossing paste.  One technique that doesn’t work well is applying white paint, embossing paste or gesso to cardstock that has been colored with distress ink.  Why?  Because the distress ink seeps up through the white product and ruins your white snow.  I know this because I keep doing it over and over and knowing it is a bad decision.  LOL!  Albert would say I am insane.  When I was finished with this project I decided it would be so much prettier if I added snow to the tree limbs of the that I had colored with brown ink.  I got out my gesso and painted the limbs.  The result was that I had to paint several layers to cover the “brown” snow.  LOL!  Thus my snow looks way to heavy.

I started by cutting the blue layer using a Spellbinders Oval die and stamping the trees on the blue background using peeled paint ink.  I didn’t want the trees covered with snow because I wanted the die cut images to pop against the bright color. I cut a white oval piece of cardstock using the oval die and hand cut the white snow layer.  I attached it to the blue layer with ATG adhesive.  I colored the tree and deer layer using vintage photo ink and a mini applicator.  You can see my tutorial on coloring die cut animals here.

I wanted to use a plain green card base but wanted to add a little pizzazz to it so I crimped a strip of cardstock and attached it with ATG adhesive. I attached all three layers together with thin strips of mounting tape and attached them to the card base with ATG adhesive.  I punched a few sprigs of foliage, attached them to the scene with glossy accents and painted them with white gesso. I always think little springs in a scene adds interest and a more natural look.

Sparkling Nature Deer and Pine Branch Scene

Good Friday morning.  I have an all white silhouette nature scene to share with you today made using the Memory Box Grand Stag Oval Frame, Pine Branch Oval Frame paired with pine foliage made using the Martha Stewart Branch Punch and three sparkly little stars from the Sun and Moon set.

I cut the Grand Stag Oval Frame and Pine Branch Oval using white cardstock. I applied Cosmic Glitter glue to the pine branches on both layer frames and dusted with clear glitter. I punched out several branches, applied glue and glitter and set them aside to dry.  I used a Spellbinder Oval die to cut the opening in the card base. I cut an Icy Mint layer and attached it with mounting tape over the opening on the inside of the card.  I used the oval die to cut the small ground section to use at the bottom of the deer feet, applied glue and glitter. I cut three little stars, applied glue and glitter and set aside to dry.

The Pine Branch Oval Frame was attached directly to the card base with double stick tape to cover the opening on the front side of the card.  I applied thin strips of mounting tape to the back of the Grand Stag Oval Frame and attached it directly over the branch frame. I like the layered dimension created by attaching the blue layer on the inside of the card with mounting tape and the two front frames being separated by another layer of mounting tape. I trimmed off the bottom portion of the white branches and tucked them in behind the ground piece to soften.  I attached the three tiny sparkling stars in the sky area for the finishing touch.

Lilac Inspired Arbor

Good Monday morning.  My project today was made for the Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge.  This week we were provided The Vermont Country Store for our inspiration site.  One of my favorite color combinations is purple, green and white so I was especially inspired by the Lilac Vinyl Tablecloth found here. I made my card using the Taylored Expressions Garden Arbor and Gate and Arbor Accessories sets paired with the Memory Box Butterfly Delights, Impression Obsession Small Grass Border, Leaves and Stems and the Spellbinders Floral Ovals.

I cut the floral oval and attached it to the purple layer with strips of mounting tape.  I cut a grass border and attached it to the base of the floral oval to create a background for the arbor.

I cut several sections of the vine and the tiny flowers from the Accessories set.  I attached one full vine to the arbor with glossy accents.  I only attached in a few spots so the rest of the section of vine would look loose and natural. I then cut the other sections apart and attached them to the arbor to fill it in on both sides. I formed the tiny flowers with my stylus and molding pad and attached around the arbor with glossy accents.  I cut the fence section in half and attached to both sides of the arbor with glossy accents. I applied thin strips of mounting tape to the back of the arbor and fence and attached it to the card base.  I cut two small sections of grass border and attached in front of the fence and then attached a couple stems with tiny flowers on each side of the arbor.  I added a few butterflies to the scene for the finishing touch.  I think the Butterfly Delights might be retired as I couldn’t find it on Ellen’s site to link.
