Good Sunday morning. I know many of you have already experienced lots of cold snowy weather this winter but we have had record high temperatures here in Florida. I did have to wear my windbreaker jacket to work several mornings last week since our temps dropped down to the high 40s overnight. Oh….and we ran the heat for about five minutes. LOL! I am hoping we may have some colder weather in the next month or two just for a change.
My project today was made for the Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge and the site provided for inspiration was the Winter White Pinterest Board. I really enjoyed all the gorgeous wintry pictures on this site and was inspired by several of the scenes with snow covered birdhouses, branches and the contrast of the beautiful red cardinals. I created my scene using the Poppystamps Leafy Frame, the Memory Box Birdhouse Village, the branches were made using the Impression Obsession Wide Tree and the birds are from the Cardinals set.
I applied mounting tape to the back of the frame and attached it to the card base. I cut the branches and the roof and base of the birdhouse using Kraft cardstock. I applied versa with my versa marker to all of those pieces and embossed with white embossing powder. I used a black Copic marker to color the beaks of the cardinals and lightly rounded their bodies with my stylus and molding pad. I cut the main portion of the house with red cardstock and assembled the pieces with glossy accents. I didn’t want this to look like a Christmas card but I couldn’t resist adding a small evergreen sprig to the perch.
I cut the wide tree branches into a couple smaller sections and attached them end in under the frame using glossy accents. The birdhouse was attached with mounting tape and the sitting birds were attached with rolled up glue dots. I wanted the top bird to look like it was flying into the scene so I attached it with a tiny piece of mounting tape so it would be held further away from the frame. I applied glue to the branches and birdhouse with a fine line applicator and sprinkled on white flower soft to add snowy fluff.. When I was finished I was sort of sad that I did that because it muddled up the branches. I need to remind myself at times that “less is really more”. LOL! But I feel like I captured the feel of cold and snowy winter from the inspiration site. I especially love how it appears we are looking through nature’s decorative frosty frame to see the scene. If you like to see gorgeous winter scenes you should definitely check out the Winter White board.
Hint: I used my Sizzix Precision Base Plate to cut the frame due to the tiny intricate pattern and it cut perfectly. Whew! I find it so frustrating to waste a piece of cardstock when cutting the decorative and intricate dies. I go back and forth using the precision plate with my magnetic platform or using my metal adapter plate with the two cutting plates. In either case I try to hold the die and cardstock in place after running it through my Big Shot the first time and turn it and run it through in the opposite direction and have found doing that really helps. Are you impatiently waiting like me for the Sizzix Big Shot Express to finally be released? I can hardly wait. LOL!
I had the Memory Box Stitched Rectangle Layers on my wish list at Ellen’s for a while and when I put it in my shopping cart I accidentally put two. I didn’t realize it when I completed my order (duh) and was surprised when I received my order. My lack of paying attention will benefit one lucky person winning the extra set as a blog candy gift. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post by 5:00 pm Friday the 15th to qualify for a random drawing.
Thanks for coming by and I hope you will enjoy your Sunday no matter how cold or warm the temps are where you live.
