Nine Year Blog Anniversary and Blog Candy

Good Wednesday morning.  Nine years ago today I published My First Blog Post and I can hardly believe how fast time has gone by.  I have had the privilege of making lots of friends through folks who follow my blog and it means so much to me.  I want to celebrate this anniversary and show my gratitude by giving away some blog candy.  Scroll down to the bottom of my post for all the details. 

Before I start my post I thought it would be fun to share some of the blog banners I have created and used over the years. Creating scenes on my projects has been a passion of mine and that love was displayed in my banners.  Most of the scenes below were made using images from my Kittie Kits scenery sets produced and sold by Dave Miller at Rubbernecker Stamps.  These sets are still being sold today. I loved changing my banners from the original peaceful tree and water scene to fall and winter themes during the holiday season. Snow themes have always been my favorite. My love of scenes has transitioned over the years from stamping scenes to dimensional die cut scenes and flower projects.  It has been fun for me to look back over the years and seeing some wonderful projects and some not so wonderful.  LOL!

My project today was made using the newly released Essentials by Ellen Leaping Deer paired with the Taylored Expressions Birch Tree Cutting Plate and framed using the Nesting Card Templates. I embellished the deer’s neck with glitter covered evergreen branches using the Branch Punch.

I attached  the birch tree piece to the back of the frame using double stick tape. Next I applied thin strips of mounting tape to the back of the frame and a few key places on the tree trunks and attached to the card base.

I cut the tips off of a few evergreen branches and applied Cosmic glitter glue and clear glitter and allowed them to dry.  I attached the branches to the neck of the deer using glossy accents and then attached the deer to the trees using doubled up sections of mounting tape.  This was a very fast and easy card to make and would be perfect to mass produce for holiday cards.  I love the whimsical shape of Julie’s deer.

Stick Fence Scene

Good Saturday afternoon.  My project today is a scene built on a wooden fence background that I made for the Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge.  Our inspiration site was the Shabby Creek Cottage and I was inspired by a Mini Pallet Sign made with popsicle sticks.  I took it one step further and created a scene against the wooden stick fence background.

I started by gluing wooden sticks to a piece of cardstock using Mod Podge and then painted it with Picket Fence crackle paint.  Before the crackle paint dried I wipe it lightly with a baby wipe to wash the paint a little to give more of an aged whitewash look.

I assembled all of die cuts, colored several of the pieces with Copic markers, distress ink and mini applicators and began creating my scene.  I attached the grass sections to the fence with glossy accents.  The tree, trellis, wagon wheel, watering can and pots were attached in the scene with mounting tape.  The vines, flowers and garden tools were attached with glossy accents.  I couldn’t resist adding the “Welcome to my garden” sign on the fence.

Snowy Old Red Barn

Good Sunday morning.  One of my favorites of the daily challenges over at Splitcoaststampers is the Inspiration Challenge.  This week our challenge site was a Stampscapes Gallery on Flickr.  I almost went into inspiration overload as I browsed through all the wonderful selections but finally settled on the Snowy Red Barn scene.  I instantly thought of the old barn that I drew years ago for my Kittie Kits Farm Life  set.  I couldn’t resist creating another snowy scene pairing the old barn with the Impression Obsession Tree Frame, Wide Tree  and Fir Tree.

I cut the tree frame, wide tree and outer frame out of Ellen Essentials tan woodgrain embossed cardstock and applied vintage photo ink with my Color Box stylus and foam tip. I stamped the barn on the same woodgrain cardstock using black versafine ink, heat set it and colored it with my waterbrush and fired brick, aged mahogany and black soot distress reinkers. I hand cut the front ground snow piece with deckle scissors and sponged a small brown pathway  using antique linen with a mini applicator. I applied glossy accents to the tree branches, barn, ground snow and ground branches and applied polar white flower soft.  I applied peeled paint ink to the fir tree, misted with my mini mister and stamped on the card base.  I sponged tumbled glass ink in the sky area with my ink blending tool and then applied a light coating of glossy accents and sprinkled with flower soft..

I attached the tree frame to the back of the frame using 1/4” double stick tape and then applied thin strips of mounting tape to the back of the frame, tree trunk and limbs and attached over the tree scene on the card base. I attached the front ground piece directly to the front of the frame with double stick tape.  I tucked the barn in behind the ground snow and attached with double stick tape. I finished by inserting a few snowy branches cut from the wide tree on both sides of the barn to add additional dimension and interest.

Here’s a closer view of the barn and snowy branches.  I failed to mention above that I cut the barn door of the front of the barn and attached it to the opening with rolled double stick tape.  I applied black soot ink to a piece of scrap woodgrain cardstock and attached it to the back of the barn to fill ink the opening.

Snowy Moonlight Scenes Revisited

Good Saturday morning.  I had the opportunity to play in the Splitcoaststampers Ways to Use It challenge on Thursday and the challenge was to make a fast an easy holiday card.  When I have needed to make an extra quick card or two during past holiday seasons  I turn to making clean and simple Snowy Moonlight scenes.  To me this style of card takes only minutes yet makes such an impact. Not only am I sharing my new moonlight snow scene project today but thought I would share several from years past.  It seems I can’t get through a holiday season without posting at least one

I started by masking off the ground snow area with a piece of Post-It Removable Labeling Tape and punching a 1” circle mask for the moon.  Hint”  I can never get a punch to punch through a piece of this tape so this time I placed it on a piece of scrap cardstock and then punched.  It worked perfectly.  The circle peeled right off the cardstock and created the perfect moon mask.

I used an ink blending tool  and stormy sky distress ink to sponge in the sky.  I lifted off the masks and stamped the Brush Tree Line  with the same ink.  I used a mini applicator to apply the shadows on the ground.  I grabbed one of the Rectangle 6-in-1 Frames that I had in my stash , applied mounting tape and  attached it over the scène.

Faux Watercolor Tree Scene

Good Sunday morning.  Have you taken any of the Online Card Classes?  I registered this past week for the Watercolor for Card Makers class and it is chocked full of techniques. I have had a wonderful time watching the video tutorials and have been inspired to get out a stamp or two to try my hand at creating a faux watercolor scene. I couldn’t resist adding a few die cut butterflies for a little dimension. Here’s what I came up with.

I started by stamping in the tree top using the mini fern from Kittie Kits Outdoor Master.  I stamped in light and dark green, yellow and dark pink.  When I was finished I lightly touch the lots of the little dots with a wet brush for the watercolor effect.

I sketched in the tree trunk with a brown marker and filled in with my wet brush.  I added green grass to ground area and added the appearance of flowers in pink with the mini fern.  I used an Inkssentials ink blending tool to sponge yellow around the tree.  It really isn’t as bright as it appears in the picture. I finished by framing with a double mounted frame and adding a few tiny butterflies for interest and a touch of dimension to the flat surface.  KC Memory Box Butterfly Delights 1 right

Playing with my Kittie Kits and brush takes me back to my beginnings in paper crafting.  I need to play with ink and brushes and get my fingers inky more often.
