Concertina Tag with Winter Scene

Good Sunday afternoon.  I’ve gotten a late start today.  I’m getting ready for the whole inside of my house to be painted and it has been quite a job getting everything down and out of the way.  Worst was unloading my china cabinet.  I also took Cody, my new puppy to his first day of puppy training.  Wow!  Seven puppies training all at once was interesting to say the least.  LOL!  My project is a masculine winter deer scene made using my Essentials by Ellen  Concertina Tag, Impression Obsession Brush Tree Line, Deer Snowglobe and Pine Sprig Cluster.  I think this three side tag is so cute and made with the deer makes it nice to use for a guy gift.  It could also be very cute folded closed and attached to a card front.  The tag trio is 6 3/8” x 3 1/4”.  Each individual tag is 2 3/8” x 3 1/4”.

I cut the tag twice using white cardstock.  I applied Tumbled Glass ink to the first tag using an ink blending tool. to create the sky area.  Next I secured the tree line stamp and tag in my full sized MISTI and stamped it twice across the tag to fill in the background. I colored the three deer using Antique Linen and Vintage Photo and a mini applicator.  Check out my coloring die cut animals tutorial if you would like to see how I colored the deer.

I cut the bottom off of the second tag to create the snow layer for the scene.  I attached it to the tag using double stick tape.  I attached the deer in behind the snow layer using rolled up glue dots.  I wanted them to stand away from the background for dimension but mounting tape would have had them sticking too far out for such a small scene.  I tucked pine sprigs around the deer feet and attached in behind the snow layer using glossy accents.  I added tiny 1/16” circles to the sprigs for a touch of color.  And yes….I had to have my strongest reader on to even see those little things. The sprigs and red berries don’t really show in the pictures but the little touch of red really does add to the overall scene.

I finished by applying white Embossing Paste to the ground area and then sprinkled with clear Rock Candy glitter before the paste could dry.  This was a fun little tag to make and would be easy to recreate with different backgrounds, die cut trees, etc.  I just loved the softness of the tree line in behind the deer.

Bow Wow Gift Bag and Blog Candy Winner

Good Friday afternoon.  I have a fun project to share with you today but first I want to announce the winner of my ribbon blog candy.  Congratulations to Jeanne H for leaving the 15th comment on my post.  Jeanne please send me your mailing address to kittie747@cfl.rr.com and I will get your gift right out to you.

I went to my work place today for a baby shower for one of my girls.  I was able to find the cutest baby gift bags to take all the new things I purchased for the baby.  My friends, Steve and Tammy  (husband and wife physicians that I worked with for 18 years) were attending the shower as well.  They recently got a new little pug puppy and I wanted to take them a few puppy of the toys that have been a lifesaver for me with my little puppy.  Sadly there were no puppy themed gift bags to be found so I decided I would make one myself.  I pulled out my beloved  retired Stampin’ Up! 1997 Bow Wow and retired 1996 Stampin’ Up! Meow Meow stamps and set out to make a fun backyard scene.  I also added lots of texture to the scene using my favorite and beloved mini fern stamp from the retired Stampin’ Up! Watercolor Minis.

The gift bag is made with Kraft paper so I knew it would work well for a scene.  I stamped all the images  using Memento Tuxedo Black ink and heat set them.  I colored all the images with Memento markers and filled in the grass area around the images using a Peeled Paint ink and a mini applicator.  My animals sort of died in the scene after I added all the grass and grass texture so I decided to stamped them along with the roof, dog sign and dog bowl on white cardstock.  I cut all the images out with my snips.  I colored the accessories for the dog house and scene with markers and colored the animals using Distress Inks.  I applied glossy accents to the images and popped right over the original images. I sketched the tree trunk with an black multi liner and colored it with brown markers.  The tree top was sponged on with and ink blending tool and then I filled in with the mini fern stamp.  I used an ink blending toll to add the blue sky area.  I finished the scene by adding a few birds from the Impression Obsession Small Bird Set.  I had to add a cat looking over the dog house just for my friend Steve because he doesn’t like cats…..and I do!!!  LOL!

I couldn’t resist stamping the paw prints all around the bottom of the gift bag along with the sentiments-Stay Woof Sit Bow Wow and I Love My Dog. Since I added those I thought it only fitting to put the fire plug from the set in the corner.

For those of you who have known me for a long time you know that  when I began stamping these kind of scenes were my favorite thing to do.  We had no dies to cut out images so we used our scissors.  I felt like I was taking a walk down memory lane playing with these sets as they are among my treasured Stampin’ Up! sets that I will never let go.  I thought you may enjoy seeing some of my projects from years and years ago using these images and taking me back to my beginnings as a paper crafter.

Thanks for putting up with my little step back in time.  Creating scenes with stamps, ink and sketching with an artist pen was the stepping stone to my love of creating scenes with die cut images.  I hope you have a great weekend and as always I appreciate you coming by.

Impression Obsession “Animal” Challenge

Good Thursday morning and welcome to the Impression Obsession “You’re An Animal” design team challenge to use an animal on our project.  I love making fall scenes and took this opportunity to create one around surrounding a deer. The deer is from the Deer Trio paired with the Tree Frame, Foliage, Oak Leaves and Rake, All-in-One Frames Rectangles 2 and Fir Tree and Small Fir Tree.

I started by securing the scene base and stamp in my MISTI and stamped them across the whole sheet to create a background for the scene.  I applied Tumbled Glass ink to the sky area of the scene using an ink blending tool.  I cut the tree frame, deer, leaves and foliage using white cardstock.  I misted the tree frame well with a mini mister and then applied Gathered Twigs directly to the cardstock with my ink pad.  I know the tree looks almost black in the photos but in person it looks dark brown. I used mini applicators to apply Fired Ink, Peeled Paint and Spiced Marmalade to the leaves and foliage.  I used both Vintage Photo and Gathered Twigs and a mini applicator to apply ink to the deer.  I hand cut a small section of cardstock in white to use for the ground area and applied Peeled Paint with a mini applicator.

I applied double stick tape to the back of the lower portion of the frame and attached the ground piece.  Then I applied thin strips of mounting tape to the back of the frame and attached the the tree frame.  I attached a second layer of mounting tape to the back of the tree frame and attached background scene.  I applied double stick tape to the back of the framed scene and attached it to the card base. I attached several of the small oak leaves to the tree branches using glossy accents.  The deer was attached to the scene base with mounting tape.  I tucked the foliage branches in around the deer and attached with glossy accents.  I finished by adding a couple falling leaves in the sky area with glossy accents.

Santa Moon and Blog Candy winner

My project today was made using the Impression Obsession Santa Moon,  European Buildings and the stars from the US Flag.  I love the Santa silhouette against the big bright moon and thought pairing it overhead of the buildings would make a fun scene. 

Project Pieces and Supplies

Card Base 5.50” x 4.25”, Blue Santa Moon Layer5.25” x 4.00” , Black Santa and Reindeer 5” x 2”,  Yellow Moon Background Layer 2.50” Square, Black European Building 5.50” x 2.50”, Yellow Building Background Layer 5.50” x 2.50”, Yellow Stars, Mounting Tape, Crafter’s Pick Ultimate Glue, Double Stick Tape, Scissors, Pencil,

Steps

1. Trim the Santa and reindeer off of the blue layer.  When you cut this section be sure you have it set for the moon opening to be on the far left of your blue layer.  If not you won’t have anywhere for your reindeer to fly off to.

2. Trim the black Santa and reindeer  off leaving enough on each side to attach behind the blue layer.  Attach both sides to the back of the blue moon opening using glossy accents. Make sure you set Santa and reindeer at a low enough angle so the outer reindeer will not be going off the top of the card base.

3.  Attach small pieces of mounting tape to the back of the Santa and reindeer to pop them up off the gold background.

4.  Attach the gold layer behind the blue moon opening with double stick tape.

5. Apply thin strips of mounting tape to the back of the blue layer and attach to the card base. You can choose to attach the blue layer directly to the card base instead of popping it up if you wish.

6. Apply light touches of Crafter’s Pick Ultimate Glue to the back of the stars and attach to the card base. You can use any glue that works well for you  and although I usually use glossy accents for most of my projects I used Crafter’s Pick for the tiny stars because it dries clean and clear. 

7. Attach the three outer reindeer to the card base with small pieces of mounting tape.

8. Use the European Buildings as a template to trace the building lines on the yellow layer with a pencil.

9. Carefully trim around the traced lines to form the background layer. Some of the window openings in the European Buildings are very close to the edges so you’ll want to be careful to leave enough space to cover all the open spaces but not stick out above or below the buildings.

10. Apply double stick tape to several key spots on the back of the buildings and attach flat to the yellow layer.

11. Apply strips of mounting tape to the back of the buildings and attach to the card base.

The most tedious part of the process was attaching all those tiny stars to the blue background but I really love how they look for the overall scene and that they match the moon and building background.  You could easily replace the stars with white snowflakes made using a white gel pen, white liquid applique, white paint and tiny brush, white liquid pearls or whatever else you may have on hand. I think next time I will use the Santa Moon with a snowy winter scene with lots of evergreen trees.  I love the trees from the Peace Frame that I used earlier this past weekend and they are a perfect size to work with the Santa and reindeer.

Peace Frame, Survey Question and Blog Candy

Good Saturday morning.  Before I start my project description I would like to ask your opinion on something.  Would you prefer having step by step instructions listed like you see them for my project today? Does you think it makes it easier to follow the steps rather than being in paragraph form like I normally do?  I would really appreciate your opinion. My project today was made using the newly released Impression Obsession Peace Frame and Snowfall paired with the All-in-One Frames-Squares 2 and Hill Landscape Layers.   The new Peace Frame set  and Snowfall die work perfectly together to make a beautiful clean and simple project.  This project was fast and easy and can be easily mass produced for holiday cards.  The Peace Frame is a freestanding die and does not require an additional frame.  I just happen to like having the white outer frame to create more contrast against the green background.

Project Pieces and Supplies

Scalloped Frame, Peace Frame, Snow Fall Layer, Trees, Landscape Pieces, Adhesive, Mounting Tape, Green and White Cardstock

Steps

1. Apply adhesive to the back of the Scalloped Frame, line it up over top of the Peace Frame and attach.

2. Line up the two Landscape Pieces the way you would like them to show in the scene and trim them down to 3.25” wide.

3. Apply adhesive around the bottom and lower sides on the back of the frame and attach the front Landscape Piece.

4. Apply thin strips of mounting tape all the way around the back of the frame.

5. Attach the back Landscape Piece in place on the bottom of the frame.

6. Apply adhesive to the back edges of the Landscape piece and attach the Snowfall Layer to the mounting tape and Landscape Piece on the back of the frame.

7. Apply adhesive to the back of the Snowfall Layer and attach to the whole frame to the card base.

8. Apply small pieces of mounting tape to the back of the trees and tuck in behind the Landscape Layers and attach.
