By the Sea

Good Sunday afternoon.  I have another beach card to share with you today but this time I placed the birds as the main focus of the scene.  I used the new By The Sea Stamp Set and coordinating  By The Sea Die Set  paired with the Sea Plants and framed with the Rectangle 6-in-1 Frames set.

I started by sponging in the sand using a mini applicator using Vintage Photo ink.  Next I masked off the water line with a piece of Post-It Adhesive and sponged Broken China ink in the darker blue water with a mini applicator.  I removed the tape and sponged in the sky area using a cloud stencil and ink blending tool.  I used my finger to lightly apply white embossing paste on the water.  I didn’t apply much of the paste because I wanted the water to appear in the distance.  Before the paste was dry I applied clear glitter to add a bit of sparkle to the water.  It doesn’t show really well in the pictures.  I attached the scene to the frame using mounting tape.  I wanted there to be dimension between the frame and card base so I attached it using another layer of mounting tape.

I stamped the birds on white cardstock using Pumice Stone ink and embossed with clear embossing powder to set the ink.  Next I cut them out using the coordinating dies.  I used a mini applicator to lightly apply a bit of Pumice Stone ink to the birds. I colored the legs and beaks with a Spiced Marmalade marker.  I cut three sections of the foliage and cut them in different lengths and tucked them in behind the frame using glossy accents.

Here’s a closer view of the scene.  When I create a scene like this I love framing it with an all white background so the bright colors pop.

Fun in the Sun

Good Monday morning.  I know you probably wonder if I will ever get tired of making beach cards but the answer to that is no.  I just love creating little snippet scenes of the beach with sparkly foamy water rolling up on the sand.  These fun images are from the Impression Obsession Fun in the Sun Die Set and  Fun in the Sun Stamp Set.  I sure would love to be there right now.  Actually it won’t be long until Bob and I will be enjoying Cape Hatteras and celebrating a week long family reunion with my sisters, brother-in-law, grand kids and our nephew and his soon to be bride..

I stamped all the images, colored them with Copic markers and cut them out.  I applied versa and clear embossing powder to all the pieces to add shine and brighten the colors.  I die cut the pieces and trim med then down a little with my snips.

I used ink blending tools and mini applicator to apply the water, sand and sky area using Broken China and Vintage Photo Distress Ink.  I applied the white embossing paste to the water and allowed it to roll up the sand like sea foam and added  sparkle to the paste by sprinkling on Rock Candy clear glitter.  I set the chair and umbrella in place using mounting tape and then attached the hat, flip flops, sunscreen and sunglasses with tolled up glue dots.  The ball was attached over the water with a strip of mounting tape.

I finished the scene by using my Peeled Paint marker to add sea grass along the sand dunes and then lightly added more brown ink with the mini applicator to fill in around the clumps of grass. I toyed with putting a couple sea birds in the scene but it was just a bit too much with all that was already going on in the scene.

Swaying Palm Trees

Good Saturday afternoon.  Beach scene cards are one of my favorite things to make and I wanted to make one today showing you another way to use the new Impression Obsession Palm Trees and Hammock die. This scene die comes framed and all the images are together in one die which makes it fun and easy to color and mount it on your card front. For my project today I cut the palm trees out of the frame and cut the hammock off the trees so I could use only the trees for my scene.  I used the  Small Grass to add foliage to the palm tree clumps and the smallest bird from the Sea Birds set to draw the eye up to the upper sky area.

I placed a piece of 3M adhesive roll across the page about a third  of the way from the bottom of the card to create a mask line for my water. I applied Broken China ink to the bottom of the card using an ink blending tool. I removed the mask and set aside to use again.  I applied a lighter shade of blue the sky area using the ink blending tool.  I replaced the mask across the water line, spread out Cosmic glitter glue to the water portion with my finger, removed the mask and then applied clear glitter. I applied Vintage Photo ink to a piece of white card stock and cut it with my deckle scissors to create the sand dune edge. I used one of the images from my retired Stampin’ UP! Itty Bitty set and brown ink to add speckles to the sand.  The scene base was attached to the card base using ATG adhesive.  The sand layer was attached with mounting tape.

I colored all the palm trees and grass with Copic markers.  I colored the birds using a mini applicator and Pumice Stone ink.  The palm trees were attached to the card base with mounting tape and glue dots.  The grass sections were tucked in behind the sand and attached with glossy accents.  I bent the bird wings with my fingers and attached them in the sky area using glossy accents. to finish the scene.

Welcome to My Garden

Good Monday morning.  I have a fun garden scene project to share with you today using the new Impression Obsession Garden Furniture paired with the Wrought Iron Fence, Window with Shutter, Grass Border, Leafy Branch and Tiny Flowers.

I started the scene by attaching a double layer of grass border to a thin strip of cardstock with double stick tape.  I applied another layer of double stick tape to the back of the grass border and attached it to the bottom of the card base.  I cut two strips of designer paper for curtains, crimped them and attached to the back of the window with double stick tape. The window was then attached to the card base with double stick tape.  I wanted the open gates to be an invitation into the scene.  I cut a small amount off both sides of the gates so make them fit the scene. I cut thin strips of cardstock to attached to the sides of the gates and then attached them both to the card base with double stick tape.  The table and chair were set in place and attached with rolled glue dots.

I used my stylus and molding pad to form the tiny flowers and attached them to the leafy branch piece and along the grass border with glossy accents.  I applied rolled glue dots to several key spots on the back of the branch and attached it to the window and card base.  Looking at this now as I write my post I wish I had added a couple butterflies.  They would have been a perfect finish.  Oh well….next time!

Dragonfly and Foliage

Good Saturday afternoon.  My project today was made for the Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge and a Tim Holtz Pinterest page was our inspiration for today.  I was inspired by this Monochromatic Turquoise Tag with the dragonfly.  I had an extra Impression Obsession Large Dragonfly sitting on my desk from a project I did for the CLASSroom this past week.   It was already colored with Broken China and Dusty Concord Distress ink and embossed with clear embossing powder so I thought I would pair it with Foliage and a stenciled foliage background.  The Garden Leafy Branches stencil is by Memory Box but I couldn't find one to link.  This started out being a tag but I didn’t like it so cut it and put on the card front.  I think Tim’s style is wonderful and I love looking at his works of art but it is definitely out of my wheelhouse.

I laid the stencil over the cream cardstock and sponged the Broken China ink over it to create the leafy background.  I knew I couldn’t keep it totally flat and wanted to add some dimension by adding die cut foliage.  I am dissatisfied with this because I really added too much so it looks messy. I attached the foliage sections to the base using glossy accents and tiny glue dots.

I bent the wings out a little so it would look more natural.
