Straight Stamping with MISTI

Good Saturday afternoon.  I love the new Hero Arts Daisy Cutting Set and wanted to make a clean and simple card that lets it be the main focus. I paired it with the My Favorite Things Leafy Greenery, Lawn Fawn Fancy Scalloped Rectangle Stackables and the tiny flowers from the Elizabeth Craft Sunflower and the Elizabeth Craft Take Time sentiment. 

Do you have a MISTI or Mini MISTI? I love paper crafting and playing with dies, stamps and ink but I have to admit that I am the world’s worst at lining stamped sentiments.  I took a couple photos this morning to show how I used the MISTI to guarantee a perfectly straight image.

I placed the scalloped layer on the MISTI, lined it up perfectly and anchored it in place with the magnets. I placed the sentiment stamp exactly where I wanted it to be on the paper.

I closed the clear lid of the MISTI and lightly pushed down on it to secure the stamp in place and opened it.  I applied ink to the stamp, then closed the lid and pressed firmly with my fingers directly over the stamp. The sentiment was stamped perfectly.

I cut a brown cardstock strip about one inch wide and then die cut with the scalloped rectangle so it would line up over the white layer. I applied ATG adhesive to the back of the strip and attached to the white layer making sure the top and bottom eyelet holes matched up. I applied thin strips of mounting tape to the back of the white layer and attached it to the card base.

I cut the flowers using Marshmallow Chick cardstock. I applied Wild Honey Distress Ink to the inner portion of the flowers with a mini applicator and lightly worked the color partially out on each petal to add depth of color for a more natural look. I placed the flowers face down on the molding pad and formed the petals using the large ball end of the stylus from the Garden Tool Kit.  I turned the flower face up on the molding pad and gently pushed down on the center of the flower to press the petals upward. I cut the round center section of the set using the Peanut Fudge cardstock , formed it with the stylus and molding pad to create a round dome. I cut a whole section of the mini flowers to match the flower center, molding them with a tiny tipped stylus and molding pad and attached them all around the flower center with glossy accents. I cut the foliage using Easter Grass cardstock, trimmed the ends off to shorten so they would fit on the card well and attached them to the brown strip with glossy accents.  The flower was secured in place of the foliage and attached with glossy accents.

You Are My Sunshine

Good Tuesday morning.  I have a sunny and cheerful card to share with you today made using dies from Impression Obsession and My Favorite Things along with some of Susan Tierney-Cockburn’s tiny flowers and leaves.  The frame was made using the My Favorite Things Stitched Rectangle Scallop Frames, the scene was made using the Impression Obsession Sunburst Background,  Sun and Moon, Tree die, Foliage, Small Grass Border, Small Bird Set and the tiny leaves were made using Elizabeth Craft Designs The Woods 1 and the  tiny flowers are from  the Country Flora 1.  I used the Impression Obsession coordinating Sunshine die and Sunshine Stamp Set on the inside of the card.

I applied double stick tape to the back of the sunburst background and attached it to the card base.  I applied double stick tape to the bottom of the scalloped frame and attached the small grass border.  I cut thin strips of mounting tape, applied it to the back of the frame and then attached it over the sunburst background. The sun was attached to the sunburst background using a piece of mounting tape.

I cut the tree out of Kraft cardstock and colored it using a brown Copic marker.  I cut several sets of tiny leaves and attached them to the tree branches with glossy accents.  I cut and formed several sets of flower using my stylus and molding pad and attached them over the leaves using glossy accents. I applied thin strips of mounting tape to several key spots on the back of the tree and tucked it in behind the grass and attached to the card base.

I cut two sections of foliage and cut it apart into several small sections.  I attached tiny flowers to the foliage using glossy accents and then tucked them in behind the grass and attached to the card base using glossy accents.  The tiny birds were attached in the scene with rolled up glue dots.

I stamped the “You Are My” sentiment on the inside of the card and then attached the die cut sunshine with touches of  glossy accents.  The Sunshine set has several sentiments that work great with the large die cut.

Lattice Layered Floral Tag

Good Saturday morning.  My project today was made for the Splitcoaststampers Mix-Ability challenge to use at least two mediums.  Anna Wight was the host this week and she challenged us to create a layered floral tag.  For my tag I used color washing with Distress Ink reinker, PanPastel and Copic  markers.  The tag was made using the Poppystamps Pinpoint Main Street Tags,  Taylored Expressions Lattice Cutting Plate, Elizabeth Craft Designs Bunch of Flowers1 and Curvy Leaves.

I started by cutting the tag base using the largest die in the set. I cut the lattice layer, cut it again with the tag die and then attached it to the tag base with double stick tape.  I used the two largest tag dies to cut a frame and attached it over the the lattice using double stick tape.  The frame covered up the raw cut edges of the lattice and added another element of interest to the project.

I cut the flower layers using white cardstock and color washed them with a brush using pink reinker mixed with water. My photos don’t  show much variation of color from the center out to the petals.  The light pink ink dried much lighter than when it was wet.  I actually added color to the center of the flowers and some on the petals with a pink Copic marker.  Check out my Color Washed Tutorial if you would like to see step by step color washing where I used a darker ink that allowed more variation of color.  I cut the leaves using white cardstock and colored them green using a mini applicator and green PanPastel.  I followed up by applying a yellow green ink with a Copic marker to add a more natural appearance to the leaves and also seal the pastel.

I formed the flowers using my Susan’s Garden Tool Kit stylus and molding pad and attached the three different sized layers together using glossy accents.  I lightly formed the leaves with the stylus and molding pad.  I arranged the foliage in place and attached to the tag base with glossy accents.  The flowers were attached in place using glossy accents.  I added the three tiny white snow pearls for the finishing touch.

I had lots of fun combining the different mediums for my flowers and leaves.  It is always fun for me to play in the challenges on Splitcoaststampers and this challenge inspired me to get out both my PanPastel and Copic markers which I haven’t used in a long time.  I have learned so much playing in the Splitcoaststampers challenges over the 12 years that I have been a member and have gained so much from the wonderful community of paper crafters.  If you are new to Splitcoaststampers and would like to check out the challenges, galleries and resources just click here to go to the home page.  There is more information, inspiration and fun there than you could ever imagine.  You can start your own gallery to upload your artwork and you’ll find people there who love to encourage you.  I hope I see you there.

Ornate Framed Jasmine

Good Friday morning.  Wheeee!  The weekend is almost here and I’m looking forward to it!  How about you?  My project today was made with the new Elizabeth Craft Designs Garden Notes Jasmine by Susan Tierney-Cockburn, the new Taylored Expressions Dotted Lattice Embossing Folder and the Impression Obsession Ornate Oval Frame.

When I saw Susan’s pretty Jasmine set I knew I wanted to play with it.  The flowers are so delicate and I really love the foliage that comes with the set.  I cut the flowers, lightly applied Scattered straw in the center of each one and then formed using my stylus and molding pad from Susan’s Garden Tool Kit. I formed the stamen by rolling them around my tweezers tip and securing them with Crafter’s Pick glue.  I also used Crafter’s pick to attach the stamen in the center of the flower because it dries clear.

The frame was attached to the card base with thin strips of mounting tape. The leaves were cut and then scored  with the leaf tool, and formed lightly with the stylus and molding pad.  They were arranged and attached  to the card base with glossy accents. The flowers were attached to and around the foliage with glossy accents.  I made this arrangement more of a free form design so the flowers and branches would look more natural.
