Susan’s Framed Dahlias

Good Saturday afternoon.  I am a little late with my post today.  I just couldn’t get myself moving this morning as early as I usually do.  I have another frame project to share with you today using Susan’s Dahlia set and colored with PanPastel. I love this flower.

I started by cutting out several of each petal.  I didn’t use the largest die on the larger flower because I wanted to keep the flower smaller. The two smaller flowers were made using on the smallest flower die and the center rolled die. I colored the vanilla cardstock flowers using magenta pastel, then lightly added some permanent red and finished by adding touches of yellow. 

I created the frame using gold cardstock that I lightly painted with crackle paint and double mounted using a layer of gold that I colored lightly with a copic marker to add some depth. You can see my step by step tutorial of how I created this mitered frame over at the CLASSroom.

 

I cut the Honeyblossom Sprig, Gentle Leaf and punched a few branches using my Branch Punch using light green cardstock. I colored them lightly with green pastel.  I attached the sprig to the base using rolled glue dots in a few spots.  I attached the flowers with glossy accents. I finished by adding the pieces of foliage at the bottom of the main stem and attaching with glossy accents. I really love the brightness of the flowers with the soft green foliage and frame.

Very pretty Dahlia. Im glad to see you create a smaller version I guess I didnt realize you could do this with the die and still get a pretty Dahlia. Seeing you have three flowers on a A2 card size and they look beautiful tempts me to give this flower a try. I do love how you color with them pan pastels. Wish they werent so pricey.

I realize the PanPastels are pricey, but I can honestly tell you I have had mine for over 6 years, teaching and creating projects, and they are still in "like-new" condition! I love the way you colored my Dahlia--it's one of my favorite flowers and one that was a prize-winning for my Grandma Gladys. You never cease to amaze me, XOXO
